The iTrex application uses crowd sharing sharing technology to update the location of nearby iTrex tags belonging to other users via your devices GPS. When these updates occur they are completely transparent and will in no way interrupt service or compromise the security of your phone.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
